Spamalot
Monty Python’s Spamalot

Ever heard a Brit say, “Brilllliant?” I wish I could say it that way, because it’s the perfect word for describing Monty Python’s Spamalot, and I would love to be able to pronounce it in a manner befitting this wonderful new show. A Monty Python fan ever since I first learned about dead parrots and fish slapping, I was ecstatic when Steve Wynn beat out Los Angeles to bring Spamalot from Broadway to the Strip. The second I learned about a special preview show to benefit our local public radio station, I bought a ticket.

Spamalot is a smart and sparkly (I’m trying to avoid saying “brilllliant” again, but it’s tough) blend of vintage Python shticks and songs, fresh and funny new material, great songs, perfect timing, groovy sets, fabulously creative costumes, and original choreography. John O’Hurley makes a perfect King Arthur, and Nikki Clark is a hilariously voluptuous Lady of the Lake. The rest of the cast is just as good.

I never saw the Broadway version of Spamalot, but changes have obviously been made to make this the Vegas incarnation. It works. It’s brillllliant! Long may it reign.
