Lindo Michoacan

Lindo Michoacan means “Pretty Michoacán,” but it could also mean “Delicious Michoacán,” because everything I’ve tasted from this restaurant has been indeed muy delicioso. The location I’ve visited several times is near my house, but there are actually four locations around the valley. They are at 2655 East Desert Inn Road, 10082 West Flamingo Road, 7070 West Tropical Parkway, and soon there will be a location in Henderson at 645 Carnegie Street. So, I am branching out: for those readers who may not want to come all the way to my part of town, I offer three alternatives so you have no excuse.
If you’ve followed my articles on Living Las Vegas, you’ll remember that I wrote previously about Mexican food in Las Vegas. Lindo Michoacan is, as you might imagine, a Mexican restaurant. But, unlike Los Tacos, Lindo Michoacan is a full-menu restaurant where you might want to take the family for dinner, or where you might want to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion with your co-workers. In fact, that’s exactly what’s been happening every time I’ve been there, even the times I was just picking up an order to go. In fact, this restaurant is very popular for work parties, most likely because the prices are moderate and the service is good. Come to think of it, for me that’s about the best thing you can say about a restaurant. The only improvement on that comment would be to say that the food was also excellent, which, as it happens, it is at Lindo Michoacan.
So, you may be asking yourself, what’s a “Michoacán?” Michoacán (the “Mich” part it pronounced like the English name “Mitch”) is a State in Southern Mexico. According to the Lindo Michoacan web site, there is a saying in Mexico that if you want good food, you should got to Michoacán You’ll find that they have the usual Mexican favorites, tacos, enchiladas and the like, but they also have fare that I’ll bet is closer to what Mexicans eat at home than what most Mexican restaurants serve. For instance, we ordered a beef stew one time that was surprising both in the way it was made, with whole vegetables swimming in it, but also in how darned tasty it was. On my most recent visit I ordered from the lunch menu, the Pollo Michoacan to be exact. That would be thin chicken strips in a really good red sauce along with rice and some excellent beans. It’s numero diez on the lunch menu, if you’d like to try it.
According to their web site, hours are the same at all locations: 10:30 am to 11:00 pm Monday through Thursday, 10:30 am to Midnight on Friday, and on Saturdays 9:00 am to Midnight. Sunday hours are 9 am to 11:00 pm. The parking lot was crowded last time I was there for lunch, but I didn’t wait a second for a table. I suppose that there is a very slight possibility that the Desert Inn restaurant is the only good one, but I’d bet real money that it’s not. Even Henderson folks will shortly have a local Lindo Michoacan available, and I’d urge you all to give it a try.
One last thing. In the crowded parking lot is this sculpture of two horses. No plaque or anything, just two horses out in the middle of things. I’m not a sophisticated guy, and the manager wasn’t in when I took the picture. If anyone knows the significance of two horses in a parking lot, please share it. In fact, visit the two in the photograph. The food is excellent.
