Gotta Have More Cowbell
Monday, November 30, 2009
This past week was Thanksgiving week and for me that’s all about family, friends and being truly thankful for the life I have been given…and even though it can be rough and imperfect, it is a sweet life and I am incredibly blessed. So I cleared most my Diva schedule of shows to see and shoot and concentrated on being with those I love and chose to write about a show I’ve seen and shot but haven’t had the chance to share with you.
Blue Oyster Cult: At The Railhead at Boulder Station — June 26, 2009

Blue Oyster Cult at the Railhead inside Boulder Station
OK, I am a huge Blue Oyster Cult fan. Their music is a huge part of the soundtrack of my life (and a major chunk of my iPod playlist) and I have been lucky enough to shoot their show not once but twice, thanks to their long-time sound guy, and good friend, Steve “Woody” LaCerra. While Las Vegas isn’t currently on their 2010 touring schedule I wouldn’t be surprised if they show up here sooner rather than later. (They have been at the Railhead every year for at least the past five years and often out in Laughlin during Bike Week.)

Rabid fans pack the Railhead when BOC show up
BOC always puts on a phenomenal show for their rabid fan following and the Railhead is a fantastic venue to see live music, especially classic rock groups like these guys. In case you don’t know, BOC consists of Lead Vocalist Eric Bloom, Guitarist Buck Dharma (who penned my favorites “Don’t Fear the Reaper” and “Burnin’ For You”), Guitarist/Keyboardist Richie Castellano, Drummer Jules Radino and Bassist Rudy Sarzo. Seems kinda stupid to review a show that was over five months ago so I’m not really gonna get into it except that the boys are probably the most cohesive and exciting classic rock band I’ve ever heard and LaCerra at the sound board is truly one of the best in the business so you can expect to get the best sounding show. If you ever get a chance to see BOC live I’d suggest you run to get tickets.
Oh, by the way, I adore the infamous Saturday Night Live cowbell skit with Christopher Walken and Will Farrell where Walken says “I gotta have more cowbell” and as a percussionist I love it so much that I had that very quote embroidered onto a t-shirt that I wear to every BOC show. Now, because of that skit the guys no longer autograph cowbells because right after that skit originally aired they saw these signed cowbells selling on eBay and it kinda pissed them off but they all did sign my shirt. You’ll never see it on eBay….ever. I’ll be buried in it.
