Ichabod’s — A Local’s Favorite (for a Reason)
Saturday, November 7, 2009
Ichabod’s Lounge, at 3300 E Flamingo Rd # 15, has been cited as a local’s favorite hangout for a couple of years now, by newspaper readers and on Ichabod’s own advertising. As it happens, Ichabod’s is close to home for me, in fact in the same strip mall as the hardware store to which I give a lot of business. So far as I can tell, Ichabod’s does not have a web site, so the best I can do in that regard is to give you this link to a map of its location. It’s not far off of the US-95 Freeway, which makes it reasonably easy to get to even if you don’t happen to live in the neighborhood. If you’re a tourist and you’d like to see where local Las Vegans like to have lunch, just drive East on Flamingo Road for about four miles and Ichabod’s will be on your left, after Mojave but before Pecos Road.
Ichabod’s is popular both as a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and as a slot bar. That means that there are two areas inside of the lounge, separated by a glass wall. This is in compliance, of course, with the smoking regulations enacted a few years ago, and means that if you want dinner you can’t smoke with your food, and if you want to smoke you can’t have food with your smokes. That’s typical Nevada, these days, but I mention it for the benefit of newcomers and guests who read this site. I don’t smoke, so I usually just go for the food. That puts me in the middle of the dining room portion of Ichabod’s, which, considering how much I like to eat, is right where I like to be.
Saying I like to eat begs the question of just what it is Ichabod’s has to offer. The lounge is always open, which is typical in Las Vegas. From eleven in the evening to eleven in the morning, Ichabod’s serves a full breakfast menu. Someday I want to try it, but for now I can only report on lunch and dinner, both of which menus include some excellent food. For lunch I usually go for a cheeseburger, that old American standard that so many love. It comes with one of three cheeses on it, plus a choice of fries, potato salad or cole slaw. Nothing shocking, but everything is really good.
I happen to think that the cheeseburger is the reason cows were invented, but that’s just me. If you don’t agree with that sentiment, then you should know that they have a selection or two for lunch that doesn’t involve any meat at all, if that’s your thing. But, don’t mistake Ichabod’s for a New Age Health-Food Restaurant. It’s just tasty good old American food done the way I like it.
For dinner you can get steaks, ribs, fish and chips, chicken fried steaks, spaghetti, fish and other standards. As it happens, chicken fried steak is, like the cheeseburger, something I judge a restaurant by, and Ichabod’s passes again, with flying colors. When I’ve been in for Dinner I’ve enjoyed the entrees just as much as I do the cheeseburgers for lunch.
To sum it up, Ichabod’s Lounge is well spoken of by Las Vegas locals for a good reason: because it provides excellent service and good food for reasonable prices. The sign on their door promises loose slots, too, but that’s something you’ll have to try for yourself. You could stop in for lunch or dinner, then shift over to the bar for an after-meal drink and try your luck. If you do, I’m pretty sure that you’ll have a good time, and I know that you’ll have some good food.

“…I happen to think that the cheeseburger is the reason cows were invented, but that’s just me…”
Steve, I think its fair to assume you are not a vegan…
Since you’ve thrown down the gauntlet, so to speak, I think you ought to write an article about the best burgers in Las Vegas… and we can see where in the hierarchy Ichabod’s fits in!
