Casino Beat: November 2009 Promos!
Thursday, November 19, 2009
As the holiday season rushes towards us, our area casinos are doing their best to lure us into their bright and shiny labyrinths of bells and whistles. For player’s club members who check their mail, a bounty of cash, groceries, wine and even pumpkin pies is waiting just for you!
Some economists are predicting a fairly healthy holiday season for the main casinos up on the Strip. Some analysts are even predicting those casinos might be able to improve upon last year’s numbers. For the local’s casinos however, forecasts are less rosy. So they are trying harder. Station and Fiesta casinos for example have two promotions running this month. One is the Jumbo Reel Cash Bonus where there’s a lucky instant winner every minute at every Station and Fiesta casino twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Prizes are $5, $10, $15, $20 and $10,000. Player’s must have their player’s club card inserted in participating video reel slots (poker slots don’t qualify) to win.
The other Station and Fiesta promo is called the $1.6 Million WinFall of Cash. It happens every Friday and Saturday night in November at 8:15 pm at every Station and Fiesta casino. The nice thing is there are 125 winners each night at each location and winners do NOT have to be present to win (a welcomed break from most Friday/Saturday night promotions). However, players have to check a posted winner’s list and claim their prize by 11pm to win. Prizes range from $50-5,000 so if you’ve earned some points playing slots or table games during the week, it’s worth activating your entries and checking to see if you’ve won if you’re out on the town on a Friday or Saturday night. I won $50 two weeks ago at Fiesta Henderson but didn’t get to the casino in time to claim it.
Station and Fiesta casinos are also offering a free pumpkin pie to all player’s club members on Tuesday, November 24 from 10am-8pm. No points, or play is required. Just show up with your card.
My wife got her M Resort calendar this month and she has over $70 in free play, along with coupons for a complimentary logo sweatshirt, holiday pie (on Wednesday November 25), and two bottles of wine. Not bad for someone who has been there less than half a dozen times since the M opened and has only gambled $5-10 a time. She also got five buy-one-get-one-free coupons good for entries at Studio B, Red Cup, the Vig Deli or the always delicious M Buffet.
For slot players at the M Resort this month who don’t want to pay at all for their buffets, 250 points earns a free lunch buffet Mon-Fri, 400 points earns a dinner buffet Mon-Thurs, 500 points earns a Saturday or Sunday brunch buffet and 600 points earns a seafood dinner buffet Fri-Sun. These complimentary buffets must be used on the same day the points are earned, but this strikes me as a really good deal since the food at the M buffet is excellent and beer and wine are included for no additional cost. The other nice thing about this promotion is that you get to keep the points you earned too. Of course, earning points means you’re gambling, so the risk of losing more than the buffet actually costs is a real possibility. However, the M Resort does have a pretty good pay-out rate according to friends who play there regularly.
Even if you don’t like to gamble though, mark your calendars for Saturday December 12 at 5pm for the M Resort’s Tree Lighting Ceremony in the Villaggio del Sole. The 108 foot Douglas White Fir they’re bringing in will supposedly be the nation’s largest Christmas tree. Carolers, free hot chocolate and lots more will definitely make for an entertaining evening.
Finally, the Palms. Definitely one of my favorite casinos in town. Today, November 19 from 8am-10pm in the food court, swipe your player’s card for a chance to win up to $1,000 cash, $500 in slot play, groceries, an iPod, and food offers at select restaurants in the Palms. No points have to be earned to qualify to win. Just show up. If today doesn’t work, the same deal applies at the same time on the next two Sundays of the month (the 22nd and 29th). Except, instead of an iPod you have the chance to win Palms apparel. Check out a movie at the great theaters at the Palms while you’re there. I’m looking forward to catching 2012 this Sunday.
WEEK #11 NFL picks:
I knew the Redskins were ready to burn me. I took them last week against the Falcons as a cover bet but this week they killed what would have been a very nice 3-team parlay by beating Denver. Hey, I’m from D.C. so I expect this kind of uncertainty so that’s why I’ve mostly stayed away from them this year. However, I’m liking the points against Dallas. With Jerome Betts maybe they can eat up enough clock to keep Tony Romo off the field. Let’s hope so.
Redskins +11 at Dallas
Saints -11.5 at Tampa Bay
Bengals -9.5 at Oakland
Chargers -3 at Denver
Last week: 2-1
Season-to-date: 17-18-2
Remember to cover your parlays with a straight-up bet or two!

Yep, lots of promotions out there — Now if just had some corresponding “free time”
So far the football gods have kept you humble with your picks, but the rest of the season holds some interesting match-ups and and I bet we see an increase in you picks rate!
Mark
I sure hope so!
It’s a bold move to officially prognosticate, but it was more fun at the beginning of the season when I was picking more winners!
Looking forward to some dinners at the M!
Cowboys should win for sure after they took last week off in GB but 11 seems like too many points for a division rivalry.
