Bring on CES!
When I lived in Chicago, the month of January was a month to dread.
The end-of-the-year holidays were over. The weather pushed all activities indoors; driving wasn’t fun; excitement was in short supply and spring seemed too far away.
But living in Las Vegas, January is a month that roars … with conventions, parties and more holidays.
One of the town’s largest conventions, the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), lit up the Las Vegas Convention Center and the LVH Pavilion and Ballroom last week. The stats are impressive:
Among CES’s 153,000 attendees (a record) were 34,000 international attendees. (A reporter on CNET also reported that this year, because the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo was not scheduled on the same dates as CES — the AVN event will be held next week — 60,000 other prospective CES attendees cancelled!)
Some 5800 media registrants made sure the world knew about CES in detail. (See the video above.) More than 20,000 new products made their debuts at CES shown by 3100 exhibitors.
Canon USA Hots Customer Reception/Fundraiser
Among the favorite activities to come along with CES is Canon USA’s January 11 Customer Appreciation Reception at Bellagio Las Vegas. Food and drink are available along with a number of celebrities invited to share in the activities by Baskow and Associates of Las Vegas. The Canon party is also, importantly, an opportunity to raise funds, through live and silent auctions, benefitting the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (John Walsh’s organization). The video below captures some of the action there.
Another Reason for Las Vegas to Celebrate
And finally, last week was “prep” week for the upcoming Chinese New Year, officially January 23 but extending throughout the month. Below are photographs taken at the Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and at the Palazzo Las Vegas. In the Chinese calendar, the upcoming year is, the “Year of the Dragon”.

The dragons are green and pink (and snort smoke) at the Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.

Diane thanks for bringing more details on the CES show as it is not opened to the public. Video and interviews were great. Keep up the good work.
Enjoyed your perspective on the CES show, accented by vids and descriptions. You always manage to make it feel like we’re there in person with you. Photos from Bellagio were outstanding. Look forward to your future reports!
