It’s A Suite Life For Barbie® At The Palms Las Vegas
As Living-Las-Vegas.com’s Photo Diva, I was given the golden opportunity to attend the media event of the Barbie® Suite unveiling on Monday, June 1 at The Palms resort and casino in Las Vegas Nevada so I slipped on my glitter-y Diva Las Vegas T-Shirt and off I went with cameras in hand. Having never covered a suite unveiling before I thought it was…um…interesting. Let me tell you why.
Well…It Certainly Is PINK!
The Barbie® Suite is located on the 26th floor of the Palms’ Fantasy Tower and is decked out with everything Barbie® to celebrate her 50th birthday and designed by the “Happy Chic” designer Jonathan Adler. You get the feeling that you are walking into a life-size Barbie® Dream House right at the door as the entrance is adorned with a patchwork wallpaper of vintage Barbie® drawings and logos and swirly and glittery pink marble-like flooring.
The main room is a combo living/dining room with large bar area with hot pink and black walls, floor-to-ceiling windows with spectacular views of the south valley, and furnished with stuffed, corseted chairs, a large black retro sofa, wildly colored wicker princess chairs and adorable see-thru pink acrylic dining chairs. The two-way fireplace is flanked by two life-size pink poodles. On the wall next to the fireplace hangs a remarkable mirror adorned with 65 reproduction 1959 Black and White Bathing Suit Barbie® dolls. My Barbie® Dream House never looked like this!
One Very Pink Bed…but, man, what a view!
The only bedroom in the suite is fairly girly with it’s pink headboard, bedding and upholstered foot bench and a makeup station next to the other side of the two-way fireplace. Like the living/dining area, this room also has floor-to-ceiling windows facing South and East with spectacular views. The walk-in closet adjacent to the bedroom also has an East-facing floor-to-ceiling window and the cutest wallpaper composed of black and pink Barbie® shoes.
BUT WAIT…THERE’S MORE!
OK, here’s where it gets…um…interesting for me. There are 2.5 bathrooms in this suite that has a 50-person capacity. The first is a harmless powder room off the foyer with mirrored wallpaper and a super cute large canvas composed of just pink lips. The second full bath just off of the bedroom is also fairly harmless, also with mirrored wallpaper and some cute artwork. The “big” bathroom that takes up probably 25% of the 2,350 sq feet of suite space is quite remarkable with a super-size jacuzzi tub, large vanity area and a huge pink-tiled shower with…um…a stripper pole right in the middle. Ummmm…Ohh Kaay.
Now, I’m no prude and I think this suite would be awesome for a bachelorette party BUT how would one explain that shower accessory to a Barbie® obsessed pre-teen at her birthday tea party? Hopefully the door to that room can be closed off and locked for such a booking… Oh, did I neglect to mention that both the jacuzzi and shower areas of the “big” bathroom have frosted windows so that your guests in the living area can watch the show?
Overall, I think the Barbie® Suite is pretty cool. The approx. $4k/night price tag…not so much. But that’s just me. I’d rather spend that kind of dough on Jimmy Choo shoes or a new Prada bag or even a new camera. If the price tag is a little too steep for you too take heart…several pieces from the “Barbie® Loves Jonathan Adler” home decor collection will be available for purchase this fall so keep an eye out. I for one am hoping that the corset chair will be available so I can add it to my home office. I’m just saying…
The Barbie® Suite is now available for bookings and will be for the next year. To check availability visit www.palms.com and be sure to tell them that the Photo Diva sent you!
