I wasn’t going to write until I thought about this…We went to see the Transformers movie yesterday, while I am not here to ruin the plot, I am here to warn any parent with a child under age 16 to not bring them to see this movie…there is adult language and references to sexual scenes that can be considered graphic to the eyes of a child under the age of 15. So if you are monitoring what your children watch you may want to add this movie to that list.

I was originally going to write about the Circus. I will write about that when I can collect my thoughts after the steep blow we all had this week in the entertainment industry.

Two days ago we lost Ed McMann and today we lost Farrah Fawcett to cancer and the shocker was Michael Jackson only hours later.

I grew up with Farrah Fawcett in the 70′s and followed her career until she had taken a hiatus back in the 90′s. I remember watching her in Charlie’s Angels…sadly she only lasted one year but she was a good actress. Later I saw her in the many movies that followed her career on a more serious side and the movie The Burning Bed that finally shaped the law enforcement laws on brutality in Domestic Violence cases around the country.

I also grew up with Michael Jackson from the time I was ten years old. I remember watching the Jackson 5 on the Ed Sullivan Show soon after he debuted the Osmond Brothers and the two families became an over night sensation for young women across the globe.

I followed Michael all the way until today when he shockingly passed away. He was such an inspiration to any aspiring musician. Michael was born to run a stage in front of large audiences. He left his fans breathless. He was known for his trademark moonwalk that was a sensational hit all over the world. He also made the “robot” a well known dance step. But he was best known for his 1985 hit “Thriller.” People were learning the dance and it was seen at many occasions such as weddings. I don’t have a favorite song because I loved them all. I will miss Michael…rest in peace.

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know Andrew and I will be heading to the Circus this Thursday night and will be blogging about it on Friday. We are also going to be visiting more hot spots around Las Vegas this month since my daughter and her husband are here visiting.

Just the mere thought of being able to use coke for getting rid of corrosion on your car battery was enough to get me to discontinue drinking it. Now doctors are suggesting it causes muscle damage something called hypokalemia, and no wonder, it’s literally eating out our insides.

People who drink from two to nine liters daily are at the highest risk.
Two of the patients in the study were pregnant women who consumed a total of up to seven liters daily. They were both admitted into the hospital with low potassium levels which stemmed from the cola consumption. One patient was a twenty-one year old pregnant woman who complained of fatigue and continual vomiting.

An electrocardiogram also revealed she had a heart blockage…now, ask yourselves, is drinking coke the best choice rather then say choosing a glass of water of fresh squeezed juice?

When you watch the cola battle adds on television asking whether coke is better then pepsi I think we should all make the right choice and say neither.

Studies suggest we are consuming more soft drinks then ever before without thinking about the consequences. You’re not safe with diet colas either. It was once thought that caffeine products were part of the cause, but in more advanced case studies caffeine showed no ill benefits and actually proved to be healthy is small doses, not to say all the caffeine lovers should lower their consumption drastically. Surely that would cause withdrawl symptoms no one wishes to have.

It is in my own opinion that people care more about what they put in their cars rather then what they put into their bodies, and thanks to more advanced technologies in science we are finding out what is more beneficial to the needs of our bodies, only we need to pay more attention.

I read an article yesterday on the health benefits of certain foods. I was always a huge Kiwi fruit eater as well as pomegranits. For years no one realized the health benefits of those fruits until the studies began to pour out, then of course the prices were raised and the stores and farmers made a steep profit. Same thing with chicken, they find out it’s great for your health then jack the prices way up to make a profit.

I found Kale was on the list not only as a cancer fighter but it prevents cancer from growing in the body. We bought a head of it yesterday at the store and heated it up in a pan with some olive oil and garlic…it was actually delicious….but those are very good odds if you think about it which makes sense to me why some European countries who eat more fruits and veggies live longer then their western counterparts. While we sit scoffing down fatty beef burgers with all the trimmings then sitting in front of the television or computer, they are eating healthy and walking daily. They seem to know the secret to longevity and they’re not sharing…I’d suggest following them and see how far we can age in a more healthful way. Who knows, maybe someday we will all be able to live past 100 and still be as energetic as we were in our twenties.

So on that note, let’s try to think more about what we put in our bodies to remain healthy and happy.

Inside the Forum ShopsPueblo Park500x500_8ce593f91170121edde4c737e4f08d90500x500_49a18b15b17619fe7396075e07fe43b1Las Vegas

I am often asked why I decided to leave the seasons of the east coast and move to the dry hot heat of the mojave desert.

I smile whenever I think about what I left behind because it wasn’t exactly something I want to remember. Living in the state of New Jersey not only brought me misery in the cost of living especially in taxes that the lovely Govenor raised throughout his term even though he promised not to, but the cost of high winter gas bills that ran through the roof.

Those of you who lived on the north east coast know what I am referring to. The frigid tempratures in the winter that usually begin mid November and drain you all the way to the end of mid May when there is no threat of frost at night.

The heavy snow storms that kept us housebound for weeks, not to mention driving on icey roads, praying you’d make it home in one piece.

The worst for me was the constant rain showers and wicked thunderstorms with severe lightening threatening to strike your home at any given moment.

The flooding of the east coast roads, that if you weren’t able to get ahead of the storm you were basically stranded until the storm died down.

I went on to tell them that I don’t miss the excessive humidity that transferred a 100 degree day into a steam box and the minute you walked out your door you began sweating bullets.

Grass cutting and pulling weeds was anothor nightmare for me and as you grow older you seriously don’t want to play on the farm anymore.

I moved out to Vegas mainly for family and the daily doses of sunlight with barely any rain. When I sit outside in my yard I see nothing but a blue sky and feel the warm air caressing my skin. I wake to fresh air and look out my front windows to the sight of the desert mountains which are simply breathtaking.

The cost of living is three fouths of what I used to spend back east and the benefits here in Vegas outweigh everything, from convenience shopping, dining, and entertainment. Out here you are never bored stuck in a rain or snow storm. Here life is easy, relaxing and stress free. Just the way I expected it to be.

Las Vegas has natural beauty here in the Oasis even though the tempratures can reach well over 100 degrees on any given summer day, but you learn to adjust or in my case…enjoy it. The Red Rock mountains are quite a sight to behold. I can’t think of a better place to be, at least for me. I am on a vacation everyday, I don’t need to travel very far for entertainment, a good movie or fine dining. The golf courses are well worth the trip if you are planning to visit and you are a golfer. I highly recommend Las Vegas as one of the hottest spots on the planet to live if you are looking for a fun and relaxing city filled with excitement.

The east coast can keep their snow, rain, himidity, pollution, and freezing cold tempratures. I plan on remaining a Nevadan until the day I die.

fashion_mall_2fashion-show-mall-10

To those of you who have never visited the famous Fashion Show mall in Las Vegas, you are in for a real treat.

We walked in at just the right time as I stood there watching the runway floor elevate first. Following that, a larger section of the marble incased floor began to rise up where a glass encased cube carried the smiling models up from the floor and onto the runway.

The mall is adjacent Treasure Island on one side and Wynn on the other. It has five floors where the upper mostfloor houses a large food court where you can purchase any kind of fast food from Hot dogs to chicken to pizza.

The malls anchor stores are Nordstroms, Bloomingdales, Macy’s Dillards and Niemen Marcus. The mall carries approximately two-hundred stores, that include, Gap, Abercrombie, Banana Republic, Bath and Body Works, Border Express, Thomas Kinkaid and in the middle of the mall you can find small boutiques that offer cell phones, jewelry, body care products.

It’s a must if you visit the strip and want to get away from the crowds plus save a bit of money.

I know I will definitely be back for more.

Until then,

Happy Shopping!

I was sadded to read that one of the funniest comedians I had the pleaure of watching in movies and on television died today. Dom was best known for his extremely funny nature displayed in all of the characters he played…one of my favorites was a psychotic character he played opposite Burt Reynolds in “The End.”

Along side his lucrative acting career he played a budding chef. He loved to cook and still make you laugh at the same time.

As an actor, he was incredibly prolific, appearing in many movies and TV shows, in Broadway plays and voicing characters for numerous cartoon shows.

The talent of Dom DeLuise’s comedy, cast him in several films that were directed by none other then funny man himself…Mel Brooks. “Blazing Saddles,” again another one of my favorites and “Robin Hood Men in Tights.”

He appeared often in films playing opposite his friend in funny world crime Burt Reynolds. I also remember him in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Smokey and the Bandit II.

The song while playing through the credits of the movie “The End” has always found its way into my head every now and then…and those of you who remember it, it begins…”Well, it’s anothor fine mess you got me into…”

I will miss you funny man Dom.

Attention all home sellers!

You now have stiff competition from all the builders who built new high priced homes and condos before the market crashed and are now scrambling to sell them.

In the process they are offering people money and low rent, plus a bonus if it sells in a few months, if they can “stage” these homes as if they lived in them!.

The people who are “staging” will also receive FREE relocation to another new home to begin the process all over. The trick is, they have to audition in order to fill the vacancy by “showing” the builders they can stage it enough to prove they CAN afford it.

In my opinion, it’s a crock! FYI, Lying to a buyer won’t sell your home!

It’s difficult enough to sell a home, why should a builder become privy to selling their unwanted inventory at such a high price tag to a prospective buyer who will never be able to get a bank loan?

This is definitely a case of false advertising. You’re better off leaving the property vacant allowing the buyer to base their decision on what they see in the open. You can find flaws in these homes when they are empty…

This is a good scam if they can pull it off. Frankly there are much better built homes out there to choose from then what I call the “Home Depot houses” for the selling prices these builders are asking for.

You’re not getting top quality in these prefab homes. You’re lucky to find wood flooring beneath the carpet. Most new homes that were, and are built, place cheap carpeting over a slab of concrete unless a buyer specifies what they want before the house if built. (and you will pay more for it) I have witnessed new homes falling apart in a five year period as opposed to a home that was built back in the 1950′s. I’d take the brick and mortar home any day over cheap drywall.

Albeit a new home may be glamorous in the eyes of a new buyer, but is it economical as compared to an older home? I have to say no. I owed an old home that was originally built back in 1895. The home had work done to it over the years including changing the heat of a working wood fireplace, to oil heat and eventually to natural gas.

The house still had the original wood, natural pine flooring throughout the entire house, original windows and wood shingles under the newer shingles. The house had charm and character and a lot of potential. It is still standing today. Show me a new home that has charm and character and one that can last that long.

New homes are boring and come in a few choice floor plans depending on which builder you go with. Some of the builders are offering more amenities, but no more then you would expect for your money. While negotiating with an owner of an older home, you will find much more flexibility because although this seller is highly motivated, they are also willing to offer you a lot more then a builder would. Show me a built in pool and a paved driveway with a new home, oak wood molding, wallpaper, oak wood or cherry cabinets…not formica, granite counter tops, again not tile or formica for a price tag of $200,000 or less.

An older home does offer all of that if you look for it. The seller of an older home will also offer to pay your closing costs and make repairs after the inspection…a builder won’t budge.

So bear in mind when buying a home…weigh the good with the bad, take pictures and notes as your search continues, and keep your eyes open…you will get more for your money with an older home.

Sign me…been there done that!

To happy house hunting!
