The Las Vegas Lebanese-American Festival 2009

Last weekend I attended Las Vegas’s second annual Lebanese-American festival. It was hosted by the St. Sharbel Mission of Las Vegas, located on Rancho Destino Rd. between Cactus and Pyle streets, not far from the South Point casino. The festival is an opportunity for the Lebanese-American community to get together and celebrate their heritage.

The festival featured Middle Eastern style food, music, and dancing. There was also a blood drive, rides for the kids, and Lebanese-themed merchandise. A statue of St. Sharbel was dedicated at the Mission that weekend as well.

Lebanon is a small country yet it has contributed a lot to world culture. Some famous people of Lebanese descent include Salma Hayek, Tony Shaloub, Paul Anka, Ralph Nader, and Danny Thomas. Here’s hoping the festival returns for many more years to come!

  1. I wish this had been more publicized in advance. I would have attended had I known. sounds like fun.

  2. Glad you went, Mike, nd your photos make me wish I had gone, too. I hope next year we know about it further in advance.

  3. There were some signs posted in the area before the festival, but it was easy to miss them even if you drove past them. I’m glad I went too, and next year I hope we’ll get more publicity about it.
