Vegas Values: A Frugal Find

It’s no secret that Las Vegas is a shopper’s paradise, but what might be a surprise is the wide variety of dining within those malls. One of my favorite places on the strip to drop some coin is the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. Besides Fashion Show Mall it has the largest selection of affordable stores. It is also home to a dozen dining options.

All that shopping can work up an appetite. With a broad selection of places to nosh the trouble is picking just one. I’ve been by the Ocean One Bar & Grille a number of times but it wasn’t until recently that I learned that it is an inexpensive way to satisfy those hunger cravings.

Ocean One Bar and Grille is located near the Rainstorm. For those unfamiliar, this is the area where rain falls from the (phony) sky Monday – Thursday at the top of every hour and every ½ hour on the weekends. It is an attraction that remains from its former life as Aladdin. Rain in the desert still draws a crowd; fortunately, here, you won’t need to worry about any flash floods.

Back to the grub, the restaurant is known for traditional American fare. It has a relaxed casual atmosphere; it offers booth and table dining. As well as, a full bar with televisions for those who want to check a score or can’t miss a play. Here you’ll find three-for-one drinks during happy hour.

Ocean One Bar and Grille also boasts express lunch specials for $5.99. There are few places you can grab a sit down meal at this price. There are six options to choose from: grilled chicken Caesar, sirloin burger, blackened tilapia, grilled chicken, penne pomodoro, and a buffalo chicken wrap. I’ve sampled the latter two. Both were filling and nicely prepared.

The variety is sure to please. If you have a hankering for something else there is a full menu, as well. Pizzas, entrees, sandwiches and wraps are priced $6.99 – $9.99. In no way will the dishes at Ocean One rival those at Wolfgang Puck’s or similar, but it does fill its niche well. It is a good option when you are seeking a quick and yummy bite.

To sweeten the deal, Ocean One Bar and Grille is a participating member of Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Dining program. This is a neat incentive program offered to Rapid Reward Members to earn free flights. Enrollment is free, your purchases earn you a quarter (0.25) credit for every $100 you spend dining. Simply register a credit or debit card and use it to dine at any of the hundreds of participating restaurants across the country. Credits earned are automatically deposited to your Rapid Rewards account. Eat to fly for free, now that’s my kind of perk!

Ocean One Bar and Grille is open 7:30am – 11:00pm; daily.

  1. That’s quite a rewards program, I only have to spend $180,000 on dining to get a free NJ to Vegas roundtrip.
