Vegas Eye: A Towering View

From the ground to the sky to a tower to… a towering view. Last week’s puzzle is still unsolved and the guess & match prizes are also unclaimed. Maybe they’re just waiting for you — for the taking?

I bet this one goes fast!

This puzzle would not technically be within the purview of rule #1 below… But it’s a nice shot nonetheless, So….

1. Where is this?
2. Where was the Photographer standing?

More about the Vegas Eye mystery photo game:

1) Anyone can play! If you think you know the location of the place or landmark pictured in the mystery photo(s) and can answer the accompanying questions, please post your responses as a comment below. Locations and landmarks are all located within a 35-mile radius of Las Vegas City Hall.

2) We invite you to contribute mystery photos to Vegas Eye and pose your own puzzle questions. If you’d like to contribute, please keep in mind that a good subject for a mystery photo should be unique in some way. There should be subtle but identifiable visual clues in the photo to help players solve the puzzle. Please send photos and puzzle questions to Vegas Eye at this address. (Please submit high resolution photos. Full-size images straight from your camera are best.)

3) If the players and contributors of this Vegas Eye game are unable to completely solve the questions posed by Vegas Eye, than Vegas Eye will be compelled to provide and post answers within a 30-day period of the original post. Participants in this Vegas Eye game will be awarded some level of bonus points for solving these puzzles within the thirty-day period. The calibration of the relative value of these bonus points is still be determined.

  1. Is this the new Hoover Dam bypass, taken from who knows where below the bridge. I know it’s scheduled to open soon – I’m guessing October 16th.

  2. Yep! Excellent work. This is the primary tower on the Nevada side of the gorge and taken from the middle of the final turn (from a car) since visitors aren’t allowed to tarry here.

    Here’s a photo, also taken today, of the nearly completed span. (scroll down the page, you’ll see some of the progress photos!)

    You’ll have to look at last week’s puzzle — Maybe you can still win one of the LLV mugs!


  3. Actually, I shot that view out of the windshield of the car — no look — by holding the camera and driving with the other hand. Pretty tricky to shoot an image one can’t actually see. (And, of course, I can’t think of a better definition of “distracted driving” — so don’t try this yourself!)
