Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! It’s time to race down to downtown Henderson for Super Run 2010. This annual event kicked-off last night at The District at Green Valley Ranch with a show and shine. Today, the event moves over to Water Street for the weekend. There will be fun, food, and live entertainment. Classic cars, too, of course. Muscle cars, hot rods, custom vehicles and more will line Water Street from Victory Road to Ocean Avenue. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.
Last year was the first I had heard of the Super Run event. Once I got word, I knew it was an event that I couldn’t miss. Little did I know it was already it in its tenth year, I had missed Steve Fey’s coverage of the Super Run 2008. We had a great time ogling over all the beautiful cars. I’m a sucker for muscle cars. I was in heaven with all the eye candy. There were a few Camaros and Chevelles that I wished were mine. I’ve been anxiously awaiting this years’ event, just so I can take another peek at these classics.
The fun doesn’t end with the cars, there are vendors selling tasty eats and refreshing drinks until 9 o’clock Friday and Saturday night. Plus, there are a number of merchandise booths selling a variety of wares. Also, you won’t want to miss the free entertainment.
Live entertainment will be at the Events Plaza “Wild West Stage”. John Earl’s Boogieman Band and the 25th Anniversary Tour featuring the Stone Canyon Band will get the show started at 6 o’clock, Friday evening. Then, Ricky Nelson Remembered with Matthew & Gunnar Nelson will take the stage at 8:00pm. Saturday, local country artists, T.J. Weaver and Against the Grain, will open for Trent Tomlinson; they are due to take the stage at 6:00pm. Trent Tomlinson will follow with his Billboard Hot Country hits including “One Wing in the Fire” and “Just Might Have Her Radio On”.
New this year is the 2010 Fireball Run Adventurally. It is a nine day race and rally that is similar to the television show Amazing Race that benefits the Klaas Kids Foundation and aids to recover missing children. Staging and the green flag start begins at 9am on Saturday, September 25. Participants will travel across the country completing tasks along the way. Galena, IL is their final destination; they’re due to cross the finish line on October 2, 2010. Additional contests and competitions will be happening all weekend. Competitions include Roaring Engines, Slow Drags and Burn Outs. Check the schedule for times. Awards will be presented on Sunday at the Wild West Stage. Those, along with other drawings and giveaways will wrap up the event on Sunday.
There’s fun for the whole family at the 11th annual Super Run. Cruise on down!
