Vegas Values: Pancakes & More!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, or so they say. However, I find that every meal has equal importance. What I have noticed is I am more likely to stay close to home to enjoy the first meal of the day. We have a regular rotation when we’re in search of morning grub, Siena Bistro is a favorite. You can’t beat its scenery, overlooking the lovely Siena Golf Course, but sometimes you need a place that can get you in and out in a jiffy. Original Pancake House does just that, they provide you with that diner experience. With four locations across the valley (and 100 coast-to-coast) there is sure to be one near your neighborhood, too.

We frequent the Ft Apache Road (near Flamingo Rd.) location. Mornings are always a buzz, but if you come early there is rarely a wait, and even during prime time, you can expect to be seated promptly. Service is consistently quick and friendly. So, you know you’ll be on your way in no time. A major dining pet peeve of mine is being held hostage after a meal while waiting for a check. Here, that is never an issue since they deliver your bill right after serving your food, and then you pay the cashier at your convenience. I really appreciate that it provides gives me the freedom to leave as soon as I am ready.

As for the food, the offerings are varied. Since 1953, The Original Pancake House has been the home for hearty appetites. It is acclaimed for using the freshest ingredients and time-tested international recipes. Batters and sauces are made fresh in each restaurant to meet The Original Pancake House’s high standards. As a result, the pancakes are deliciously light and fluffy. You can get them sweet or savory. If you don’t mind the cooking time, do try their famous apple pancake or Dutch baby. A Dutch baby is an airy treat oven baked to golden perfection and served with lemon, whipped butter and powdered sugar. Waffles, crepes, and French toast are also options (all are under 10 bucks).

The big surprise at Original Pancake House is their baked omelets ($10.29). These monsters are delicious and satisfying, and perfect for sharing. The Santa Fe omelet with pepper jack cheese and salsa is a favorite. As is the ham and Gouda omelet. It is stuffed with thick diced ham and mild Gouda cheese. Omelets come with your choice of toast or pancakes. Complete the meal with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice or a bottomless cup of hot coffee.

Coupons are often circulated in Valpak direct mailers, and periodically dining certificates are available for purchase on www.restaurant.com Keep an eye out for your chance to get the most value from a meal at The Original House of Pancakes.
