Vegas Eye: Martin won’t need a WAG…

Martin Veneroso and Dave P. teamed up last week and solved the 155th Vegas Eye puzzle in near-record time. If you’ve been reading this column much in the last year or two, you’ll already know why Martin probably won’t need any form of a WAG to sleuth out this week’s offering….

I bet more than one person knows what and where this is!

1. What is the address of this property?
2. When did this business first open for business?
3. What specific claim to fame is made by this business?
4. Why would “Blue Moon” come to mind if you visited this place on the 3rd of October?

More about the Vegas Eye mystery photo game:

1) Anyone can play! If you think you know the location of the place or landmark pictured in the mystery photo(s) and can answer the accompanying questions, please post your responses as a comment below. Locations and landmarks are all located within a 35-mile radius of Las Vegas City Hall.

2) We invite you to contribute mystery photos to Vegas Eye and pose your own puzzle questions. If you’d like to contribute, please keep in mind that a good subject for a mystery photo should be unique in some way. There should be subtle but identifiable visual clues in the photo to help players solve the puzzle. Please send photos and puzzle questions to Vegas Eye at this address. (Please submit high resolution photos. Full-size images straight from your camera are best.)

3) If the players and contributors of this Vegas Eye game are unable to completely solve the questions posed by Vegas Eye, than Vegas Eye will be compelled to provide and post answers within a 30-day period of the original post. Participants in this Vegas Eye game will be awarded some level of bonus points for solving these puzzles within the thirty-day period. The calibration of the relative value of these bonus points is still be determined. However there have been two special honorees as the reigning super VE-Geo-Sleuths: October, 2012 Dave P, is the most active of the current puzzle sleuths and deserves special recognition for using geometry to triangulate the position of the photographer in this tricky VE puzzle. In October 2010, Tom Herbertson was able to deduce and otherwise figure out all of the mystery locations shown here and in 2011 Martin Veneroso has posted a number of detailed responses, like this one for the Las Vegas Strip pink elephant and this one which is seen by hundreds of people every day!

4) We invite you to subscribe to the Vegas Eye Mystery Photo feature so you’ll have the first shot at solving each week’s puzzle.

  1. You’re not going to believe this, but I don’t recognize this one. I’ll work the clues, though, don’t you worry.

Still, this is an opportunity for anyone who has been shut out recently, as it will take me a while.

  2. Martin,

Now this IS funny. What is it that you’ve always referred to when you were sleuthing these puzzles….?

  3. Oh, I’m pretty sure what kind of business this is, I just can’t place this particular image.

I’ll get it, but the field will be open for a little while on this one.

  4. This *is* embarrassing – I even made reference to this business in a previous Vegas Eye response.

    *shamed face*

“The only strip club on the [Las Vegas] strip!” – Olympic Gardens
By the way, that claim is tenuous as the Talk of the Town strip club is also on LV Blvd a little north of the OG (as is the Palomino, nuch farther north), and I’d be hard pressed to think of a definition of “the strip” that includes the OG but not TotT.

I’m still stumped about the date it first opened and the 10/3 link. Dave?

  5. Technically, it should be pointed out, that the OG is not really part of the STRIP either. It is on Las Vegas Blvd., but most folks consider the Stratosphere to be the northern end of the STRIP,,,

But I had forgotten about the Talk of the Town… good point.

Now… since you mentioned the previous reference…. I should say that something related to such reference is, in fact, a huge clue for this puzzle….

I bet you’ll nail this one soon.

    Good work!

  6. So the name and the claim to fame (3) have been solved. I can add the address (1):
    1531 Las Vegas Blvd South
    Las Vegas, NV 89104
I’ll have to work on the date (2) and the blue moon (4).

Note that if the Strip is considered to include North Las Vegas, there is also the Palomino at
    1848 Las Vegas Blvd North,
    North Las Vegas, Nv 89030
It’s the only club with both alcohol and nude dancing, there since 1969.

  7. Opened Sunday, March 5, 1989 from what I extrapolate from the date of their 20th anniversary. I thought it was older than that.

As for Blue Moon, I know there’s a gay resort in Las Vegas by that name, and that there is a show with male dancers at the OG on Thursdays. Since the 3rd of October was a Thursday, perhaps they had a group come over to watch.

  8. I note that Talk of the Town is conveniently located next door to the High Hat Regency.. Its rooms are even surrounding a kind of atrium, if you consider the parking lot one of those.

  9. Hmm, I’m having trouble locating the puzzle that included Luv-It Custard next to the OG. I need a hint for the hint!

While I was clicking through the archives, though, I ran across the one from 8/9/12 “An oldie but goodie…” for which I put in a late answer. I was (and am) so certain of its correctness that I didn’t make a point of it at the time.

  10. Wow. I’m a little late checking out this latest puzzle, and the responses have gone wild. I guess we can tell what sparks interest 🙂

  11. That oldie-but goodie is found here.

And the Luv-it puzzle is nearly a year later than than the one Martin just solved… It was from August, 2013…

And, while Tom has completed some of the blanks…. Martin is still on the correct trail for the proper response to question #4.

By the way, Tom, nice to see you back here!

  12. Oh, heck, I’ve been flubbing left and right on this one, when I should have been rocking a strong home field advantage.

The new Luv-It flavors of the day on 10/3 were… **Liquorice** and **Blue Moon**

I was googling like a mad man and staring at the puzzle from this August (that I was too dense to find on my own) when I finally saw the link to Luv-It’s own website embedded in your reply.

Badda-bing, badda-boom – I finally got to where I should have been on Thursday.

Finally, I can go to bed and get some sleep. 🙂

  13. Yep, the team effort paid off — Sorry I didn’t notice that you had already corralled this one in when I posted my comment on the current puzzle!

    Good work!
