If you are old enough to remember when you — or your kids — loved early video games (Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, etc.) then Adam Sandler’s Pixels was made for you. The premise is very silly: video games are sent from outer space to defeat and take over earth. So, like the giant marshmallow at the end of Ghostbusters, at the end of Pixles a giant Pac-Man is chasing people through the streets, devouring and destroying.
Stars Adam Sandler, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, Lainie Kazan, Kevin James, Jane Krakowski, Brian Cox and Sean Bean treat the whole enterprise perfectly seriously. In fact, the games and gamers themselves are treated respectfully, even if the premise is exceedingly silly. For no apparent reason, there are cameos by Serena Williams and Martha Stewart.
Do I recommend Pixels? Well, kids should have fun watching all the action. Former “acaders” might enjoy it for the sake of nostalgia. Anyone else can wait until it’s on TV. That way, you won’t be annoyed that you wasted money on it.
