I had a request from a reader to make a video tour of “TI”, Treasure Island Las Vegas. Because, as with the MGM Grand, I had not visited Treasure Island in years, I eagerly answered the call. (Yes, I still prefer the Treasure Island name to “TI”.)
I can remember visiting Treasure Island years ago to see the show Mystere. As visitors to Las Vegas then, we were told the show, by Cirque du Soleil, was like nothing we had ever seen — it had circus acts, but wasn’t a circus — and the show featured comedy and music and…. well, we loved the show and have gone back several times as acts and other aspects of the show have changed.
But Treasure Island as a destination? I’d never thought about it, but most likely I should have due to its location (between the Mirage and Fashion Show Mall and across from The Palazzo and the Wynn Las Vegas). Walking the Strip would be easy from Treasure Island.
I have to say, however, that Treasure Island today, looked a bit worn, when compared to some of the other places I’ve seen lately. Comments from folks who have stayed at Treasure Island say that the rooms are perfectly fine and they, too, love the location.
One attraction at Treasure Island that I missed while visiting last week is on the second floor. It is called Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N and is “an extensive range of authentic props and costumes from the Marvel Avengers movies”. Visitors pay to visit this exhibit.
Owner of Treasure Island is 80-plus-year-old Phil Ruffin who bought the property from the MGM group in 2009. Hotel prices are moderate, for a Strip location, and parking is free (whee!).
During my video visit, I discovered something I had not previously known, that the Treasure Island Coffee Shop also doubles as the only Vietnamese restaurant on the Strip. Yes, other foods are available in the Coffee Shop, but for those who like Vietnamese food, Treasure Island is the place to go.
Here comes the video…..
I did a Staycation there many years ago. My primary recollection is the spa and the services they offered were really nice. Better look for a Treasure Island Silent Auction package! Thanks for the update.
