Last night I had the opportunity to attend the most startling show on the Las Vegas Strip: OPM at The Cosmopolitan. Since it was May the Fourth (“May the Fourth be with you”), the show paid special homage to one of the most beloved franchises in movie history, Star Wars. It was a match made in heaven — or at least a galaxy — because OPM, like Star Wars, is not of this world.
As I walked in, I felt like I was in the Star Wars cantina, because guests all around me were clad in costumes from the Star Wars universe. Princess Leia was well represented, and so was Yoda (sometimes only with ears, but that was enough). A pair of Stormtroopers looked totally real, an impression helped along by the free-flowing galactic cocktails like Yuzu the Force (with Hendricks gin) and That New New Hope (with Don Julio tequila).
After the fantastic voyage through hyperspace that OPM delivers, the cast handed out light sabers to all in attendance, igniting a “battle” to remember! Then we celebrated May the Fourth with refreshments featuring glow-in-the-dark cake pops and pizza from Superfrico, a three-tier glow-in-the-dark OPM cake by LV Custom Cakes. And of course, more cocktails, some in glow-in-the-dark glasses. By the time I left, I’m pretty sure I was glowing in the dark, too! It was truly a night to remember, and I’m grateful to have been part of such a unique and exhilarating experience.
May the Fourth is still with me, making Cinco de Mayo glow in a way it never has before.
UPDATE: JANUARY 2, 2024.
– Over the last six years, hundreds of thousands of passengers have blasted off on the Starship OPM and been wowed by its incredibly talented crew and out-of-this-world in-flight entertainment. On Sunday night, (New Year’s Eve,) cast, crew, family and friends cheered on Spiegelworld’s OPM as it performed its very last show at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
