Last week had a bit of good news. I finally talked to someone at Legacy Air who scheduled me for an air conditioner repair. Thank you, Brittany!
And with tickets through Sonia and a ride from Libby, I was able to see Clint Holmes Wednesday night. He had another full house and sang songs about “summer.” Some of the songs were very romantic, but in this heat–the sweat from two people coming together very well might have another excuse. The next night, incidentally, at Kelly Clinton‘s “Sit In”, Clint was given an award for his work mentoring young people. The award was named after Holmes’ long-time friend, the late Bill Fayne.
The Olympics have been interesting including the swim suits. On the women, I have never seen such tiny bikinis and in some cases, such flat chests. I am not a bit tiny, in any way, which means my Olympic career was long ago sacrificed in lieu of working with typewriters.
I have a simple (and delicious) dessert instant recipe (if you like peanut butter) that I made last week:
Beat two ounces of cream cheese with ¼ cup confectioners suger and ¼ cup of peanut butter. Put aside. Beat ½ cup of heavy wihpping cream and beat into soft peaks. Then mix the two sections together and place the result in two serving glasses. Serve at once. (And people say that only thing I can cook is chocolate chip cookies!)
I have a number of places where I have passwords that are numbers. And every so often, the original passwords need to change and I need new numbers. It’s impossible for me now to remember these passwords so I have them written in the back of a notebook. A bad guy finding the notebook could wipe me out in a second. Hopefully, he’ll have wiped me out as well and I won’t care.
Some days I wish I had had children, somebody to talk to on lonely days. But then again. Children would be grown now and “watching” Mom for signs of–And then Mom would walk in the kitchen, open the refrigerator door and remember, she really wanted something from the garage. Or she would say Sandhill when she meant Russell. Or she would forget that today is Wednesday and not Thursday–just little things. Yes, I would be generous to grandchildren, but then again what if I didn’t LIKE the grandchildren? No children? I’m fine with that.
My dogs talk to me. About lunch time they get very friendly and without invitation come very close begging for attention. When I finally get the message and stand up, they run around as if a royal highness were in town and they were lucky enough to be in her audience. When the highness goes to the refrigerator to get their lunch, they are even more excited. When the filled dog dishes are delivered, they can’t start digging in fast enough. And then–everything ends. The dogs are tired. Her royal highness has gone back to her castle (her office) and the dogs could care less about the lady. Now they wait until evening and the “prospect” of a late evening treat and more excitement. Funny thing, her royal highness loves every minute.
And finally, I had another great recipe: ate this at a recent poker party and begged the maker (originally from Albania) for a recipe. I tried the recipe and it was a disaster–so much so that everything is in the trash. I need a repeat of the directions obviously or a trip to Albania. Went back to chocolate ice cream and all was well.
Always great reading your writings! Random thoughts are fine…that’s how we think most of the time. Ok…that’s probably how women think most of the time. A slight window into true multi tasking. Hope to hear you “live” this October!!
For those that might not know, Legacy Air, mentioned above in Diane’s column, is a locally-owned company. The two principals are Greg Guthrie and Dave Hays. The owners of Living-Las-Vegas have been customers since 2012 — all the way back to the period where it was common to see both Greg and Dave on residential service calls. These days, there are more than twenty HVAC techs working for the company in both Las Vegas and Reno. We recommend this company with the highest regard.
***An interesting update: Diane reported that Legacy wasn’t up to their usual standards in terms of customer service and showing up on-time. Perhaps the company has grown so fast that their previously-held high standards for customer support are not being met any more. Which would be a sad development if her experience is wide-spread***
Always fun reading your column Diane!
Can’t go wrong with chocolate ice cream.
