I ordered this book because I was curious, not because I love the title.
I have lived in Las Vegas more than 20 years and I wondered what author Shaunda Necole had to suggest that I haven’t experienced myself.
As it turns out, she had lots of great suggestions. Each page of the book has a title with maybe a half-page or three-quarters of a page explanation of each title. Many pages have useful tips “to make the most of your time in this fabulous city.”
Shaunda talked about a fabulous cheesecake called “Basque Cheesecake.” The name was new to me as was the bakery to contact, Casa Madrid located at 110 S Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas. It’s on my go-to list.
I found out also there is a cat cafe, the Hearts Alive Village Cat Cafe, on Rainbow Blvd. Lots of cats are on hand. AND if you decide to adopt one of the cats at the cafe, your entrance donation will be deducted from the adoption fee. Or you and your cat can come to the cafe, eat, cuddle and simply have a good time.
One thing I have done is walk the Las Vegas Strip, but not recently. Shaunda says a trip from the Strat Hotel, to the Las Vegas sign will typically take four to five hours. Do I dare try such a walk again?
In downtown Las Vegas, the book mentions “the world’s largest LED canopy” (which is, of course the Fremont Street Experience) and “the world’s largest sports book” (which is purported to be at the Circa Hotel. )
Younger folks may know about this, but I didn’t: Bruno Mars Pinky Ring Lounge, “an ultra exclusive VIP venue nestled within the Bellagio Hotel & Casino.”
The author attests that “360-degree spin cams” are the newest attraction on the Las Vegas Strip. This digital memorabilia is recorded in just 30 seconds and the results are sent to your phone for distribution to friends. One such vendor is LV Photo.
And it seems Resorts World has something called a “disco party bathroom hiding in plain sight yet reserved for only a select few to find”.
In a listing of Cirque shows in Las Vegas there is one called “Mad Apple.” I had to look up the location. Mad Apple is in New York New York Las Vegas. It opened in 2022, replacing Zumanity. I had somehow missed this change.
And there so much more. I recommend this book for local Las Vegans and for visitors. Many more things are happening in Las Vegas than most of us realize. The book, in its second edition, is comprehensive and fun to read.
That sounds like an interesting book. I knew a few of the things you listed: Bruno Mars Pinky Ring Lounge (Tyriq Johnson plays there.) The Cirque show: Mad Apple (nice but not your typical Cirque show) and The Cat Cafe.
Found your article interesting as most of us look at what is happening On the strip but there are a lot of places we don’t know about and this book might appeal to locals
