Swipe & (instant) Win is back at Station Casinos in July!

The famous Flamingo Hotel was originally called the Pink Flamingo Hotel and Casino because of Virginia Hill’s fair complexion and notoriously long skinny legs that reddened so easily in the Las Vegas sun. It’s doubtful that Hill ever spent a summer vacation in Las Vegas though, after her boyfriend, Bugsy Siegel, ended up on the wrong end of a few machine guns back in June 1947. (He was suspected of skimming from the Flamingo construction budget and she was suspected of taking the loot to Switzerland for him.) But legacies, bad ones and good ones, endure in Vegas. If Virginia and her friends ever did make it back, they would have enjoyed many of the same comps and promotions you can enjoy today in casinos all across the Las Vegas Valley. We also have the benefit of higher SPF’s.

“Super Swipe” is back at all ten (current) Station Casinos! Sort of. Unlike last year, when the promotion was everyday for a month, this time it’s only running on Fridays and Saturdays. But it’s still a great deal because you don’t need to gamble to win a wide variety of instant prizes. Starting July 2, all you have to do is swipe your Station player’s card at Palace Station, Boulder Station, Texas Station, Sunset Station, Sante Fe Station, Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock, or Aliante Station on Fridays and Saturdays and you’re guaranteed to win something. You can also swipe your Fiesta player’s card at Fiesta Henderson or Fiesta Rancho. If you’ve got the time and a fuel efficient car, it might even be worth hitting all ten locations because if Station runs the promotion like they did last year, you can play with the same players card at each location on the same day! (Check the Comment section below for an update after the promotion starts.)

Prizes in the Station “Super Swipe Giveaway” this year include: instant cash ($10,000), free slot play ($25-$100), $10-$50 in dining credits, free buffets, free rooms, concert tickets and VIP pool-side cabanas. Those are the good ones. The more common prizes will be free points (2,500-50,000), point multipliers, free bingo games and drawing entries for the special drawings where five lucky people at each location will win $1,000. The drawings will be held at 8:15pm Friday and Saturday nights in July at each location and you must be present to win. Aside from earning free entries by swiping your player’s card on those days, regular players automatically earn extra entries wherever they play slots, table games, live poker or bingo during the week. This means there are a lot of entries for each drawing. So you probably only want to brave the crowd at the location where you’ve won the most entries if you’re feeling lucky, or you want to make it part of a night out on the town. Otherwise, I suggest just hitting your local Station or Fiesta anytime on Fridays and Saturdays in July for a free chance to win one of the top instant prizes.

Oreo Fudge Cake at the Wynn? Uhh, yeah!

The M Resort wants to show off it’s awesome pool on the piazza located in the center of the property. Now through September 30, 2010, no coupon or player’s card is necessary to get 2-for-1 12oz. specialty cocktails at the Main Pool Bar. Other no coupon/no player card deals at the resort include 2-for-1 glasses of wine and 1/3 off bottles of wine at Marinelli’s, Terzetto and Veloce. These offers are only on select glasses and bottles of wine, but they’re good seven days a week and all three of these restaurants have excellent, comprehensive wine lists so you’re sure to find a good deal. Feel like catching some live music instead? Then call some friends and check out Ravello Lounge at the M Wednesday-Friday and enjoy 2-for-1 carafes of wine. No coupon or player card necessary.

Last Saturday some out-of-town guests took me and my wife to the buffet at the Wynn Resort for dinner. It was spectacular. But it was also $40 per person. Although New Zealand rack of lamb may not be an option, on Monday July 5th the Silverton Casino (located right off the I-15 in the southwest part of town) is offering it’s Seasons Buffet for only $5 from 11am-8pm. All you have to do is show them your Discovery Club players card and matching photo ID. (so don’t ask to borrow my card! ;- ).

Best Bets:

World Cup: Argentina looks dominant in the World Cup but watch those point spreads. A tie score at the end of regulation is very common in soccer. But the favored team is often posted at -1/2 which means they have to win by at least one goal by the end of regulation. Since over-time shootouts don’t count, look for “To Advance” bets instead.

Baseball: The Tampa Bay Rays had the best record in baseball up until their recent 3-7 skid. There is major discontent in their dugout but they’re a potent team. Wait for them to post a string of solid wins though before riding their coat tails back to the bank.

The Phillies were doing great until this past Monday. With Chase Utley and Placido Polanco now on the disabled list, they’re going to struggle offensively and defensively for at least the next two weeks. Don’t bet against them, but don’t be surprised if they ruin your parleys if you bet for them.

Keep betting against the Pirates, Nationals and Orioles.

Keep betting for the Rangers, Cardinals, Reds, Yankees and Red Sox.

The Braves should have some good underdog value against marginally better teams most of July, until they get to feast on the Nationals and Cubs at the end of the month.

Happy wagering and see you by the pool!
