Visitors to Las Vegas prior to the 1980s had few choices when it came to shopping on the Strip. The Forum Shops, Miracle Mile Shops, Crystals, etc. were yet to be built.
Thirty-five years ago, however, one major shopping mall did open for business. Fashion Show Mall at 3200 Las Vegas Boulevard featured brand-name stores and a much-appreciated day-time destination for weary gamblers or (horrors) non-gamblers who’d rather shop than gamble.
Today, shoppers on the Strip literally have thousands of shopping choices with more to come. Modern Las Vegas is a world-class shopping destination. Nonetheless, the huge Fashion Show Mall (some 1.8 million square feet with more than 250 stores) remains a popular shopping destination.
How does one “find” Fashion Show Mall? Since the mall’s major renovation in 2003, visitors can Just look for what appears to be a huge flying saucer. Beneath the “lid” of the saucer is the mall. Shuttle service is available from most hotels, taxis and Uber know the way, and drivers have a choice of underground and above-ground parking including a number of valet locations.
Visitors to the mall also have 25 dining choices and while shopping can do everything from having teeth whitened to buying diamonds at Tiffanys. Nordstrom’s, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Dillards, Forever 21 and hundreds of other retailers all await tourist credit cards.
Note to drivers: The mall is so large that making note of where a car is parked is essential. From personal experience, I know that Security Officers regularly rescue Fashion Show Mall visitors who have “lost” their cars.
Mall visitors without automobiles can access the mall by walking the Strip or accessing the mall via an overhead walkway from the Wynn Las Vegas. Once in the mall, comfortable shoes are essential because the mall is huge with two main levels and a number of mini-levels. Mall visitors walking wide hallways must also be aware they will encounter multiple small kiosks and aggressive sales people who can be annoying, offering everything from free facials and hair extensions to steamers and cell-phone covers. Learn to say “No thank you”… a lot.
In addition to services offered by mall retailers, the Fashion Show Mall web site lists additional services including auto jump starts, charging stations, package storage, SAME DAY delivery service, stroller rental, translation services and wheelchairs.
I visited the mall to make the attached video, but I did shop a bit myself. I have four new pair of earrings. Whoopee!
You and your ears are phenomenal. I haven’t been to this place in years. Glad you reminded me.
Megan and I find ourselves at the Fashion Show Mall, at least once a month — Parking can be a little tricky to figure out, but once you know the tricks, it’s a very convenient place to shop.
